This book, along with the previous one in the series is cramming weeks worth of action into a few days. It's also the warm up to the upcoming super bad guys that they need to get prepared for.I am enjoying the interaction between the characters and the growing love story between Jarek and Rachel is well done and not out of place even with all of the crazy action going on.

The likelihood that the humans and the Raknoths will solve their war and be able to decide how the new group will enter the conflict has become an unknown. Hurry up and arrive August.

My rating is 3.5. I’m disappointed in the direction. There was so much excitement in book one. With the sporadic action and Jared and Rachel constantly in their heads, I lost interest in the story. I found myself rushing to the conclusion. The battles were so chaotic. Made it difficult to focus. I hope Reaping Day is much better. I really loved book one and wanted that euphoria to continue through the series. Hope the next book is better.

I am not normally a fantasy reader. I tend to favor the military space opera genre. But I picked up Red Gambit on a 99 cent special and I am glad I did. The story is good, the characters are fun, and the writing is awesome. Hell to Pay is better than Red Gambit and I am about to start on Reaping Day. The only down side is I have to wait for book four...Update: I have finished all 4 Harvester books and 2 of the new Enochian war books which is a prequel to the Harvester series. They are just as good as the original series with a couple of the Enochian characters you learn about in the Harvester books .
